This is a short book with many small chapters on how to get noticed and promoted in business. Most of the book focuses on how to produce results and get noticed. The book does a good job of making you think about the things you do and whether or not they contribute to moving you forward. Here are a few of the chapter titles:
Rules like "Know Everybody by Their First Name" and "No Goals No Glory" may seem obvious; others, such as "Don't Take Work Home from the Office" or "Don't Have a Drink with the Gang" may not. Each is accompanied by page or two of succinct and thought-provoking explanation. For example, for rule 27, "Don't Hide an Elephant," Fox writes, "Big problems always surface. If they have been hidden, even unintentionally, the negative fallout is always worse. The 'hiders' always get burned, regardless of complicity. The 'discoverers' always are safe, regardless of complicity." Wise and to the point, How to Become CEO will help just about anybody's career, whether you want to become CEO or not. --Harry C. Edwards
Excellent Book
I recently bought this book....I will recommend it to all the ambitious people out there. This is an awsome book....I am very impressed by all the things author has listed in the book.
Good advice but a little preachy
Sound advice, a little judgemental in places. A good, solid, quick read.
One of the most applicable self help books I have ever read
This book has a tremendous attribute - its brevity allows you to consume and internalize the wisdom it contains.
Many of the tips are counter to human nature, and that is where it helps the most. I see my co-workers shoot themselves in the foot almost daily with their attitude and behavior. I used to act like them and similarly got nowhere in any of my jobs.
If you can choose a half dozen of these tips that are relevent to your job and make a habit of applying them, you will rise in your organization.
